Kaustav Shah, MD

MSHP Student

Dr. Kaustav Shah is an internist at the VA Medical Center in Philadelphia and a fellow in the National Clinician Scholars Program (NCSP) at the University of Pennsylvania.

Originally from central New Jersey, Dr. Shah earned his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University. He then worked in management consulting prior to obtaining his MD degree at Vanderbilt University. He moved across the country to sunny California to complete his internal medicine residency at UCLA before returning closer to home for the NCSP program.

During his NCSP fellowship, he is interested in studying interfaces and interactions between healthcare professionals (physicians, nurses, etc.) and electronic health records. He aims to investigate how emerging informatics tools powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning can be leveraged to drive quality improvement initiatives while also promoting provider wellness. He hopes to probe how the implementation of these novel AI-driven tools may exacerbate or help mitigate pre-existing healthcare disparities at the system and patient levels.
