Peter Groeneveld, MD, MS

Professor of Medicine

Peter W. (“Pete”) Groeneveld, MD, MS is Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine and a primary care physician at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center.  He is the Founding Director of Penn’s Cardiovascular Outcomes, Quality, and Evaluative Research Center (CAVOQER), Director of Research at Penn’s Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics (LDI), and Chair of the VA’s Research and Development Committee.   Dr. Groeneveld’s research is focused on the quality, outcomes, costs, and equity of high-technology cardiovascular care, and his methodological expertise is in the analysis of a wide variety of health care data, including registries, administrative claims, electronic medical records, and surveys.  His research has been funded by the NIH, AHRQ, VA, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and he has co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, many of which were first-authored by his mentees.  During his 16 years on Penn’s faculty Dr. Groeneveld has mentored research trainees from a broad array of clinical specialties, including cardiology, cardiac surgery, emergency medicine, pediatric cardiology, pulmonary/critical care, gastroenterology, radiology, anesthesia, and general internal medicine, as well as doctoral students in health economics, biostatistics, and epidemiology.
